Jon Stewart BREAKS THE INTERNET demolishing Republican TO HIS FACE

The Debate Over Guns: More or Less?

  • The Second Amendment states that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed
  • Republicans have been arguing that more guns make us safer, however, this is proven false by statistics as the US has more guns than any other country and also has more mass shootings
  • John and Jon Stewart both agree that increasing guns does not increase safety
  • The argument for increased gun control is to protect citizens from gun-related deaths, especially amongst children which are higher than cancer and car accidents combined
  • Gun control does not prevent free speech as it can still be exercised without infringing on the rights of others.

Oklahoma Senator Sparks Controversy as Supreme Court Justices Speak Out on Gun Control

  • Republican senator from Oklahoma argues that it is not the guns, but the people who are to blame for gun violence
  • 92 percent of Americans favor expanded background checks for all gun sales, however congressional Republicans have blocked any legislation surrounding this
  • Two Supreme Court Justices, one conservative and one Reagan appointee, have both said that there is no serious legal obstacle to registration
  • Republicans instead cite a misinterpretation of the Second Amendment as an obstacle and use platitudes such as “shall not be infringed” instead of taking action.

I'm a strong proponent of the SecondAmendment I believe the right to keep inbear arms shall not be infringed that'sthe one right that's listed in theConstitution that uses that veryspecific affirmative language you knowshall not be oh it's also the one rightthat uses the the phrase well regulatedcorrect when it's talking about themilitia and the state by the way justfor clarity's sake yeah I'm not againstthe Second Amendment I'm not again Idon't want to ban guns but you're sayingmore guns makes us more safe yesso whenwe got 400 million guns in the countrywe had an increase and gun deaths wentup so when exactly does this curve hitthat takes it down would a billion gunsdo it let's just run those numbers youknow 400 million 50 000. you're talkingabout a less than a fraction of not evena percent of a hundredth of a percentbut it goes up not down so your argumentis backwards but if you want okay so solet's let's come up with a solution okayso one of the issues a contributingfactor again I believe it's theindividual that is the problem so yoursolution to that isgive them more gunsso I'm saying that because people arethe problem we need to look at theproblems that those feet people arefacing and how do we address it andyou've removed the ability for the stateto do that no because you because you'reif you don't have background checks andyou don't have registration andpermittinghow do you know who has a problem interms of the people who you're giving agun to do you want to talk about thebackground checks first or do you wantto talk about Solutions first I want totalk aboutwhat you're doing is you're bringingchaos to order that's your subjectiveopinion that it's bringing chaos toorder it's not my subjective opinion wehave 50 000 gun related deaths that'snot a subjective opinion okay so that'sdead people you want to say I'm a secondamendment purist and I'm making it saferyou're not you're making it more chaoticand that's not a matter of opinionthat's the truth that is a matter ofopinion John but why take away theirtools because certain of their toolsthat they're using would beinfringements upon the people's right tokeep and bear arms upon theirconstitutional rights upon other thingsthat registering is an infringement yesokay is voting a rightit's a right for Citizens yes do youhave to do anything to do it yes what doyou have to do it depends on the statewhat do you have to do sometimes youhave to you have to be at least 18 yearsold what do you have to do and in someplaces you have to you have agovernment-issued ID what do you have toyou have to you have to be on the voterrolls register you have to registerso you have to register it we're rightis that an infringementdoes the right to voting say shall notbe infringed oh so this is just asemantic argument now no it's not do youbelieve voting rights can be infringedbecause it doesn't say specifically isit shall not be inference is it aninfringement upon a 17 year old's rightto vote since they don't have that rightto vote no are we not infringement onthem no absolutely not you're thebecause you're the one making theargument not me I'm saying even rightshave responsibilities and that withinthose responsibilities responsibilitiesresponsibilities and order otherwiseit's chaotic I'll go even further youwant to ban drag show readings tochildren tomorrow yes why why why whatare you protecting why can we prohibitchildren from voting those under 18 fromvoting why are you Banning is is thatfree speech are you infringing on thatperformer's Free Speech they cancontinue to exercise their free speechjust not in front of a child why becausethe government does have aresponsibility to protect I'm sorry thegovernment does have a responsibility incertain systems the leading cause ofdeath amongst children in this countryand I'm going to give you a hint it'snot drag show readings to Childrencorrect yesso what is it I'm presuming you're goingto say it's Firearms no I'm not going tosay it like it's an opinion that's whatit is it's Firearms more than cancermore than car accidents and what you'retelling me is you don't mind infringingfree speech to protect children fromthis amorphous thing that you think ofbut when it comes to children that havedied you don't give a flyingto stop that because that shall not beinfringed that is hypocrisy at itshighest order sure guns are dangerousbut have you seen what Jon Stewart cando to a republican who agrees to aninterview with him this is Jon Stewarton his Apple TV show the problem withJon Stewart and the state legislator whoshould probably fire his comms directoris Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dom arepublican who authored several billsloosening gun restrictions including thenation's first anti-red flag law hecontends that these bills would protectthe Second Amendment which wouldinvariably make us safer and what JonStewart contends is that Nathan Domdoesn't know what he's talking about nowjust a few points here to build on whatJon Stewart said first Republicans havebeen relying on this bromide for yearsthat more guns make us more safe onlywe've got more guns we've got 230million more guns than any other countryon Earth we own 42 percent of theworld's guns we've got more guns thanAmericans and yet you know what elsewe've got more of mass shootings noother country has ever had more within18 mass shootings we've had 80 just thisyear as of mid-February and in 2022there were 647. there's not only a linkbetween guns and mass shootings there isa straight line so I would reiteratewhat John said and that is when whendoes the safety finally kick in becauseI know the Republicans keep saying moreguns will equal more safety but theactual numbers the evidence proves thepolar opposite thumb even comes back andabandons the whole more guns equals moresafety thing and just hinges hisargument on look you've got 400 millionguns and 50 000 gun deaths that's only atiny fraction and so now the argument iswell the gun death ratio is small firstof all a small gun death ratio is notthe same as more guns make you safer atall in fact it actually means the totalopposite that the more guns there arethe more people who will die becausewhile the proportion of gun deaths toguns might be low the total number ofpeople who die at the hands of gunscontinues to grow pretty amazing towatch a republican undermine his own ownargument that Morgans equates to moresafety and instead surface the argumentthat says the absolute opposite fromthere Dom's argument continues to fallapart he issues another platitude thatit's not the guns it's the people nowfirst of all we don't have a monopoly onmurderous lunatics in the United Stateswe're just the only country that allowsthose murderous lunatics to get theirhands on an AR-15 but let's just granthim that argument that it's the peoplefine then you would think that it'simportant to do background checks onthose people and yet the sameRepublicans who are saying oh it's notthe guns it's the people are also theones blocking any legislationsurrounding expanded background checksfrom passing so that we're clear 92percent of Americans favor backgroundchecks for all gun sales 92 percent youcouldn't get that many people to agreewhat day of the week it is in Congressand yet the reason that we don't havethem is because people like this guy andhis Republican colleagues refuse to votefor it despite parading himself aroundand saying we need to look out for thepeople not the guns in fact there's awhole raft of popular legislation thatincreases regulations against the peoplewhile protecting the sanctity of theSecond Amendment prohibiting peoplewho've been determined to be a danger tothemselves or others from purchasingguns pulls an 86 percent allowing courtsto order the confiscation of guns frompeople who have been determined to be adanger to themselves or others posing 81percent a 30-day waiting period for gunsales is at 77 all simple Common Sensesolutions to ensure that we can regulatedangerous people who use guns sinceapparently it is the people who are theproblem and not the firearms and yetwhile Republicans surfaced this talkingpoint not a single one will support thelegislation that actually backs up theirtalking points all talk zero action andof course when you ask these Republicanswhy they don't pass the very legislationthat comports with their talking pointsof it's the people not the guns well yousee that legislation would infringe onSecond Amendment rights because youcan't condition the right to bear armson anything like a background check orregistration which so that we're clearis a made-up interpretation of theSecond Amendment and don't take it fromme according to a 2009 ruling from theseventh Circuit Court of Appeals in thecase Justice versus town of Cicero theSecond Amendment does not quoteinvalidate any and every regulation ongun use in other words mandatory gunregistration which was the issue at handin that case is still constitutional andif the seventh circuit wasn't enough ofan authority for you let's look at theSupreme Court specifically twoconservative justices Antonin Scaliaarguably one of if not the mostconservative Justice on the court in ourlifetimes wrote in his Heller opinionquote like most rights the rightssecured by the Second Amendment is notunlimited nothing in our opinion shouldbe taken to cast doubt on long-standingprohibitions on the possession offirearms by felons and the mentally illor lost forbidding the carrying offirearms and sensitive places such asSchools and Government buildings or lawsimposing conditions and qualificationson the commercial sale of arms Williamrehnquist the former Chief Justice ofthe Supreme Court and a republicanReagan appointee once wrote a memosaying that there is no quote seriouslegal obstacle to registration all ofwhich is to say when this random statesenator from Oklahoma suggests thatregistration or background checks orsome infringement on the SecondAmendment he doesn't know what he'stalking about and the fact that he hasno idea what he's talking about is madeabundantly clear in his final point thathe made a Jon Stewart which is thatregistration for firearms isn't the sameas registration for voting because eventhough both of those are guaranteedrights in our constitution the SecondAmendment includes the words shall notbe infringed as if that means that allother rights enumerated in theConstitution are just mere suggestionsand that in fact the only right that'sguaranteed is the right to own a gun andso even though we have an entireConstitution apparently all of thoselaws and amendments don't actually countbecause they don't have the addedqualifier of shall not be infringed ifthis argument was any more tortured itwould need to file a restraining orderthe fact is that there is no legal basisand there is no moral basis for thesearguments against Common Sense gunsafety reforms it is just naked blindDevotion to guns and gun manufacturersthey'll wrap it in these tenuousarguments about safety in children inthe Constitution but none of thosearguments survive even the mildest ofscrutiny this is about Republicansobsession with firearms and theirNewfound refusal to moderate theirextremism and they view the fact that 50000 Americans die from Guns every yearas a price that they're clearly willingto pay to watch the full episode of theproblem with Jon Stewart which I'dhighly recommend click the link righthere on the
