in this video I'm gonna give you a quickoverview on Google bigquery a lot morecoming up hey their measure geeks Julianhere back with another video today wewant to talk about Google bigquery nowyou might have heard of Google bigqueryit has become more popular over the lastfew years that it has been out reallybecause marketers who want to divedeeper into the data and take the dataout of Google Analytics or your Facebookads or Google Ads and dive deeper intothe data need a tool set in order tohouse that data and then do a little bitof an analysis that's where Googlebigquery comes in so in this video I'mgonna take you through Google vikre thebasic functionalities so you'll be ableto use it as well in your workflow andknow what it's useful for but this is inno means a full tutorial on Googlebigquery there's much more to discoverif you're interested in finding out moreabout bigquery we're actually working ona course within our measure master'sprogram you can find a link down belownow we got lots of cover so let's livein today our journey starts at cloud orgoogle.com slash bigquery because Googlebigquery is actually part of the Googlecloud platform now the Google cloudplatform has many different toolsbigquery is just one of those needlessto say you need to have a Google cloudplatform account you can create one forfree don't have to put in your creditcard information and if you don't wantto upgrade you can actually leave it atthat you can access bakery in thesandbox itself which is quite limitedbut sufficient for our demo today sowhat is bigquery exactly well it sayshere serval is high scalable andcost-effective cloud data warehousedesigned for business agility that's ahandful really what you just need toremember is the data warehouse partGoogle bigquery can store our data justlike in a database these data base canbe huge and you can analyze themtransform your data or process itfurther for your needsnow you might be familiar with thisconcept because you have been workingwith something like a spreadsheet beforeespecially the applications like Googlesheets or Microsoft Excel also let youimport data just like this and a tableformat you have your columns up here andthen you can work with this data or forexample use formulas to calculate thingsso for example some and you get to someof your column here you might also usefilter options and try to get closer toanswer your question and work with thatdata to gain insights now this is allfine to a certain degree but what if youhave more sales data so for example wehave hundred records here here is asheet with 50,000 sales records andright away and notice that it's not asresponsive anymore so when we add forexample our sum againtakes a little while to calculateespecially if you pull this over toother rows you get this bar up here orif you were trying to enter your photosif sometimes feel that the applicationis stuck and sometimes you don't have anindication if it's actually stillworking so right now I would reloadno it did it no it didn't do it let'ssee if you can still get the filter towork I'm gonna go up and let's click onfilter here in general everything isslower and sometimes even unworkablewith a larger data set so here we go butalways this bar shows us the progress Idon't really want to start putting apivot table on here because that wouldprobably take a while now this is ascenario where you might want to look atthe query there are also other methodsof analyzing big data this is in nowherereally big data in that sense but itshows where the spreadsheet applicationssometimes hit a limit so let's enter aGoogle bigquery as I said you need tohave a Google cloud platform account youcreate a project up here in the tool setdown here with all the differentofferings and services of the Googlecloud platform you want to look forbigquery and open it once you are in youcan see here we are in the sandbox wecan upgrade to have the for bigqueryexperience but we will leave need toleave a credit card in order to do sothis sandbox account is a bit limitedbut it will suffice for our demo todayso what are we looking at right herethis is the big query interface on theleft side here we can see our cloudproject and we can add some data to itso first thing that we would need to dois create a data set let's call thisdemo I'm gonna skip all these differentconfigurationsand go to my data set so here's my demoand now I can create different kind oftables now we can create an empty tablebut then nothing would be in it we wantto create a table where we upload ourdata obviously there are many differentforms of feeding data into bigquery youcan do this for example with otherservices like Google Cloud Storage orGoogle Cloud BigTable you can alsoupload data from drive or build a cloudfunction that pushes data automaticallyand you could also utilize third partyplatforms such as super metrics orevokes bi to pull your data fromFacebook's have API and fill it all into Google bigquery or utilize the openbig hurry API it really depends on yourworkflow for our demo I will just uploadour fileit's a CSV file so the file format isCSV right here and then we can give it aname and put in this schema now theschema is very important because we needto model after what we have in thesecolumns right here and what data type itactually is so for example this would bea string we have floating values here aswellnumbers obviously but bigquery alreadycan auto detect that schema if it'scorrectly filled into the CSV so we'llgo ahead and simply create this tablealso skip all of these differentAdvanced Options won't go into detailtoday and then it will create a load jobif it's a bigger file and now our demodata set is created by the way if youwant to get access to this demo data setI just downloaded it from this websiteefore excel comm and we have here salesrecords that go into the millionsalthough with our sandbox we can onlyupload 10 MB so you need to stay withthe 50,000 100,000 right here and now wehave our sales records in here and wecan see the schema these are thedifferent columns that were detected andwhen we look at preview we see all thatdata that was filled in and it'sbasically the same format that we see inour sheet now what can we do with thistablewe can query it and this is where SQLcomes in in this window you put in yourquery which is based on SQL and then youcan run all kinds of differentoperations in query for data what wouldthis look like let's click on this querytable and this is a simple SQL statementselect what you want to select from theschema right here well we can put in theasterisks to select everything from thistable and limit your output 1000 let'srun this and after just one secondwe get our data back and we can see theresult right here it's basically thesame table as we have selectedeverything but you can obviously if youknow SQL and the power of it pretty muchdo any kind of analysis that you wouldalso be able to do in a sheet so let'sgo over here and actually format this alittle bit so it's a little bit betterreadable and here you can see thekeywords that SQL uses if you want tolearn more about SQL I'm gonna have someresources linked up down below but hereyou can go ahead for example only selectcertain columns here I can actually goback to the sales record and instead ofthe Asterix you just click on the schemaepi one so for example let's get thesedifferent rows here and you see this iswhat what has been entered click runagain and we only get these certaincolumns back obviously we can also dostuff like we did before so when we wantto calculate all the different the totalprofit we can put in some formulas likesome run this again and we get ourresult back we could also order our dataor group it together so for examplegrouping together would be let's go backto our example here let's actually groupthe sum total profits by region commandhere and then we need to havea keyword called group I and regionlet's run this and here we go we get theresults per region now this is a tablename that was automatically created wecan also create our own column nameand transform our data this way now ifyou run this analysis more often you canobviously save this query you can alsosave the results if you want to push thedata somewhere else and anotherinteresting one is to save this viewthis will actually create another tablewithin your Vickery data set based onthe query that you have just written solet's put in profit by region now weactually need to also because this willactually create another table that wecan now use it only has two columns asthe schema data and we can utilize thisdata even further and Curie for it andsee what's inside work with it more andso on so if you want the Google bigqueryfor large data that can be supervaluable to utilize to do some differentanalysis with SQL if you are veryfamiliar with that I'm actually a bigfan of transforming my data inside ofGoogle bigquery so it's in the rightformat but still leave it kind of rawjust like this and then utilize thepower of data studio because what we cando is simply go to explore data righthere and it will open up our data set ifwe are connected with the accounts indata Studios data Explorer now this isnot a full dashboard is simply one chartthat you can choose right here and thenlike in data studio you can go ahead andadd dimensions or metrics and if youwant you could also utilize filters uphere to say you only want to look at onecertain area of your data set now youcan run any kind of analysis right hereyou could also build calculated fieldsplanned data with other data together oruse customand within your custom metrics that youcreate in data studio once you are happywith your data set so for example let'sgo back and actually try to recreatefrom our region we have our total profitit has been already summed up let's getaround and record count here and make anice bar chart out of it - like yourwhat you see you can also save this withthe data source and integrate it into anew report once it's saved create a newreport from here you edit through yourreport and then your visualizationshould appear inside of your data studioreport and obviously you can create moregraphics around us with the new datasource of Vickery so this was a quickoverview on the capabilities of Vickeryobviously there's much more to exploreby yourself inside of the big queryinterface google has a greatdocumentation here and although we justwent through a very little example herethe query is capable of analyzing forexample Google Analytics raw data yourFacebook Ads account or many otherdifferent data sources you can also addone of the public data sets through yourbigquery account and then happyanalyzing alright so there you have itthis is a quick overview on Googlebigquery I hope you now know what it isand if you have worked with Googlebigquery already and I'd love to knowfrom you in the comments down below whatyour specific use cases are and asmentioned at the beginning if you wantto dive deeper into Google bigquery wehave a course that we
