Augmented Reality Glasses from Real: USB-C Cable Connects to Phone, Interchangeable Parts Available

  • Real is a company selling augmented reality glasses
  • The glasses are designed to look like regular sunglasses but with added features
  • They use a USB-C cable to connect to a phone and do not have an internal battery
  • They come with interchangeable nose pieces, shade covers, and prescription lenses
  • They also have two open ear speakers, two microphones, a volume rocker, and power button.

A Closer Look at the New Virtual Reality Headset: Lower Specs than Advertised and Janky Issues, Despite Impressive Display Resolution

  • The protagonist of the video was testing a new virtual reality headset and found that it had lower specs than what had been advertised
  • It only has three degrees of freedom compared to six, does not have hand tracking, and has a smaller field of view
  • The headset experienced a number of janky issues but the display resolution was impressive
  • To use this VR experience users must use their phone as a controller, have a stationary experience rather than tracked in 3D space, and must adjust the angle by pushing until something clicks
  • The headset also has enhanced anti-shake for vehicles, head tracking/body tracking capabilities, and speakers that are better than those of its predecessor.

Cheaper AR Headset: Unreal Air Offers Augmented Reality Experiences for Early Adopters

  • The Unreal Air is a cheaper AR headset that looks more like traditional sunglasses than the Unreal Light
  • It only has three degrees of freedom tracking instead of six, and a small field of view, making it less suitable for VR gaming than the Unreal Light
  • This product may be more suitable for augmented reality experiences
  • Due to its affordability and aesthetics, it may be appealing to early adopters who wish to tinker with AR technology.

come on kids let's get real real andreal andhelp you already made this joke I know Idid and the unreal I know I did in theend real light video that I did almost ayear ago that was December this I waswaiting and in that video I said I'm youknow what this one's okay but I reallywant to try out the unreal Air at thattime I thought the unreal air wasbasically just gonna be an upgradedversion of the light it's actually notit's actually sort of like a side gradeor maybe even a downgrade in some areasbut on the plus side you won't look likeas much of a dork while wearing themoh that feels good what am I dealingwith here this is I open it like thiscleaning cloth uh a manualthis is not a toy for children nochildren if you think that I'm justabout to unbox a regular pair ofsunglasses right now uh no that's notright these are augmented realityglasses although they can also do VRapparentlyaugmented that's the proper Germanpronunciationaugmentedreality and yeah I mean like a lot ofcompanies have been trying to do thiskind of thing hololens is obviouslyeveryone knows about this but you knownow with Quest Pro they have like a bitmore you know it's a VR headset butthey're adding in more augmented realitystuff a lot of like smaller lesser-knowncompanies trying this stuff out and realseems to be one of the few companiesthat is trying to make commerciallyavailable products that don't look likefull-on developer prototypes this one ifyou forget about the fact that there'sthese likedinky little things behind the frontglass you might you might be trickedinto thinking that's just a regular pairof sunglassesI can't see anything because I thinkthere's a film on the on the lens firstof all but second of all how do I lookvery weird I think you have fake eyesbehind the glasses very weird so I meanyou know in terms of General design it'svery similar to the light it's just thatthe front lens portion is you know a lotmore like that you know standardWayfarer design but in terms of the thethick module here and the angled lenseshere uh it it is very similar to thelight you can adjust the angle of thearm because when I'm putting it on Ifeel like it's when it rests on my earsit's a little too much like can you seethat yeah like it it I feel like itwants to be here but my ears are hereand this year is even this year is lowerthan this year so what can inreal doabout that this is a us I'm guessingit's USBC USB C to C cable with anangled section because that's going toplug into the end of the glasses thereit looks like there's other things inhereokay so I think this is the prescriptionlensif you want to wear these in public uhfor some reasonshade Throwing Shade uh you can takethese to like an optometrist and getprescription lens cut cut for them uhapparentlythey won't stayunless I do thisyou've found my secret yeah herocharacter the metaverse is amazingand you got different uh nose uh noseadapters and then a shade I guess acover for the lensesI feel like that should go on easier butI have to like squish it on a little bitall right one thing to note is right offthe batis that this does not have an internalbattery they say that it can go I didn'trealize this until I was looking on thesite because the site says up to fivehours streaming in air casting mode andI'm like okay it's got a five hourbattery life and then you scroll down atthe very bottom it says using fullycharged 4 000 milliamp hour phone andI'm like wait what because this does nothave an internal battery it's fullydependent on your phone which is youknow we'll get into this uh the the thepossibilities with it with ar devicesbut like you know there's a reason thehololens is so freaking bulky although Idon't know I'm not making maybe ElonMusk will fix it he's got nice batteriesokay external uh so obviously we got theUSBC Port here uh that is going to pluginto your phone through the cableprovided it looks like we got speakershere so they do have two open earspeakers is what they call them bassboost virtual render ring Echo noisecancellation I'm guessing that's for themicrophones uh because there are twomicrophones as wellsomewhere there's Maybe One microphonethere and the other microphoneis right there on the top of the rightarm both microphones on the right sidewhich I guess would make sense if theyjust wanted to have all the miccircuitry like on this one side butwhat's on this side then nothing volumerocker here I'm guessing this is a powerbutton and that's looks like that's allthe i o or buttons that we have let'sstart using it let's get into the let'sget into the verse apostrophe hey thanksto Neo for sponsoring today's videotheir bqi C3 Pro is the evolution of theurban e-bike whether you're commutingacross the city on the daily or aweekend warrior alrightit's time to enter here the non-brandedmetaverse as I said we have to Jack infor that the line is uh we need to Jackin and jack offokay one thing right off the bat that isnot great compared to the light is thefact that there's no clip over here likeI guess they're saying that this goesdown right away so it can it can go downfrom here onto your phone but like but Iguess these aren't falling off anytimesoon so that's all right okay I'll giveyou a pass on that endreal let's plug itinyeahnebula is in Real's like Google Playstore or like it's the software thatruns here it's like when you put on yourquestsometimes you've missed it to Canada andit's like oh we can't do that in Canadaisn't on heredate of birth do I need to put that inokay AR spacetake me homeis that this is supposed to be do I needto turn them on or somethinghey there we go oh I can't see itoh it's updatingafter it updates I should be able to seefine yeah yeah so while the glasses arebeing updated one thing I figured outwhile reading the booklet is that thosethat cover this is not for style this isso you can cover the exterior lenses andlike be more immersed in VR so it'd liketo block out the outside world and theother thing is is that this is not avolume rocker it's a display or abrightness control also while I'mwaiting I figured this out so I thoughtthere was a way to adjust but I don't Inever want to force things with techproducts you never you never want tojust push it until it's something clicksbut that's exactly what you're supposedto do here so you can adjust the angleby justjust doing thatah it doesn't yeah it makes me a littleuncomfortablebut uh that's the norm let's go toPandora babyI should have expected this because thiswas basically the experience with theunreal light as well but a lot of stuffwas really janky so oh it the phonecrashed I expected this to be a littlesmoothed out honestly I'm a littledisappointed we've got uh lowered specsin a number of areas it's only got threedegrees of freedom compared to sixdegrees of freedom in the in the lightso you're not going to be able to likemove around and have a track you in 3Dspace it will be able to tell whereyou're looking and like the display willtrack and if you're in a VR experienceit's like your station it's like astationary VR experience instead of aroom scale it doesn't have hand trackingthe other one didn't have and draggingbut the other one did haveit dideditor let's put this in there a littlebit just kidding it did have handtrackingthere's no hand tracking on this as wellbecause there's no external sensorsother than the proximity sensor here totell when your head goes in the unreallight did have hand tracking and youcould either use your phone as a remoteor kind of like I think you could pinchI forget play the clip oh oh okay thisis where we crashed last time and itdidn't do this before so this is this isgood good okay thatupdating again something's happeningit's happened it's it's working yourunreal glasses are activatedoh ohI was looking over here and I heardsomething but I didn't see anything andand you're like it looks like there'ssomething on I'm like what and I lookedover here and there's the screen becauseit thinks I'mall right your phone is your controlleris what it says try and move your phonearound there it is so it says it'ssupposed to do head tracking or bodytrackingit's only 3D I guess maybe it like triesits bestfor a more stable experience in vehicleswe have enhanced the anti-shakeeffect of this mode you can disable inthe settings page you can see that Imean you guys can't see but on my screenyou can see the little screen recordingoh it's there's a time limit again I canonly record like 20 seconds okay so whatyou're seeing right nowis I guess you must only be seeing thenebula screen and not the real worldbehind it because there's no camerashere on the other one you could see likethey won't be able to see you guysright there's no cameras hereso that's that's uh too bad thing numberone the other too bad thing is the factthat the fov in this is smaller than inthe light this is 46 and it used to beit's 52 in the light and so when I movemy head aroundlike I can only see this very tiny thingand there's so much space around theavailablescreen vertically it's not too much ofan issue actually well it is butbut it's not as much as an issue to meas the left and right motion over here Ican see one two three four five sixseven eight eight rows and then there'slike another eight rows here and thenanother over hereI will say that like in the light I'mimpressed by the resolution here likethings look sharp and that's really coolall right so since we didn't have timeto go the optometrist and uh get my getmy prescription lenses that I totallywill do after this uh we just taped myglasses and uh put a little bit of tapeon the proximity sensor because it keptgoing away so now we're set up now we'renow we're ready okay I'm I could livelike this did I say it's got a 3840 by1080 resolution per eyewhich is pretty good that rocker that Ipointed out as a volume rocker falselyis the brightness control so in order tocontrol the volume you have to use thephone volume I believe yeah yeah here wego come on nopeit stopped see this is funny I go thethe widest full screen you can do hereis still limited by the field of view sothe actual screen that I see is onlythis big instead of like this could fillmy entire field of view and it's thisbigyou knowI meanit's not they're not great speakers butI think they areI think they're quite a bit better thanthe ones in the in the light maybe I'mtrippingI'll I'll accept itbased on what I've tried so far thisseems very similar to the light in termsof the like default nebula experienceyou know I didn't I haven't like done adone one of theirexperiences you're about to enter athird-party applicationso what I was sayingit's pretty janky I'm sure that if youused this for a long time you couldprobably get used to it there were wayslike there's there's a browser there'sGoogle Wikipedia YouTube you're not justlimited to your to the phone you therealso are experiences that you can usecontrollers with uh like I think thatthe headset I guess through a PC and usesteamvr so one of the things that Iwanted to try real quick before we endis steamvrlet's gobecause I'm not in AR mode anymore whoado I look cool guyswell uh after trying to figure out howto do the steamvr situation for a whilethere we figured out that you actuallythe only way that it streams VR gamesis using nvidia's Cloud XR streamingover Wi-Fi technology and once wefigured out that we had to like installthings and set things up and do thatwhole thing we were like all right youknow what this is actually probably notworth it based on the low fov because Ican only like I'm gonna play a VR gamebut all I can see is just this likeSquare in front of me there are somepeople who say they enjoy it but I'malso finding a number of Reddit poststalking about how you know it's not goodbecause the fov is so small but for likeother you know augmented realityexperiences maybe it might be worth itthe option is there if you really wantto make it work but it's probably notgoing to be the best experience in theworld okay so this was a bit of alearning experience uh primarily becauseI'm just confused about what inreal istrying to do here on the one hand theylaunched the unreal light and that kindof seemed like all right we're going tobuild this platform based on these youknow six degrees of freedom AR headsetwith uh AR headsets with a lot of coolfeatures high resolution and we're goingto build out an app ecosystem and workas well with another big uh function uhselling point was the fact that youcould like there's browsers in there youcan connect it to your computer and havelike a you know Virtual Office setup butinstead of kind of like releasing a newversion of the light that had morefeatures they released this the unrealair that is cut down in a lot of waysit's got a smaller field of view it canonly do three dof tracking instead ofsix dof which leaves one of the onlyreal benefits to the air over the lightbeing the fact that you know it looks alittle more like regular sunglasseswhich is definitely Improvement like animprovement like if we're going to haveAR glasses get anywhere close to themainstream they can't look likeyou are a cyborg and you have a giantfriggin thing on your face you know theyhave to look like regular sunglassesthat's one of the only things going forthe unreal air other than the fact thatit's cheaper it's launching at 379 USDinstead of 5.99 uh that which is whatthe light launched at the whole websitelike the the product page for the air isjust covered in like people who looklike their models just kind of likelooking cool and like oh they're puttingthe glass the case in my purse you knowthere is a positive side here which isthat if you are into AR and you want toTinker and you like early adoptingthingsyou can get this and play around it'sjust disappointing because the peoplewho would do that would probably pay the5.99 for the light instead of paying 379I'm confused by companies like unrealwhat are you who are you and real nomatter who you are thanks for thanks formaking new weird things I appreciatethat you know we need people like that Ijust wish that once the productsactually arrived here on the shortcircuit set I wouldn't have a shortcircuit trying to understand what'sgoing on in my brain you know what Imean thanks for watching uh subscribe toshort circuit for more videos like thisandif you heyif you're looking for something to watchwatch the unreal light video uh I thinkI had a better time in that oneno offense
