AutoGPT’s Latest Update Just Changed Everything

hey let's talk about Auto GPT there's abig update coming soon agent weekendjust happened codium and auto GPT hostedthe workshop and hackathon itamar who'sthe co-founder and CEO of codium andtauren the inventor of Auto GPT they hada great conversation I want to focus onthe auto GPT portion for this video withtauren and itamar because it providedmore insights into what's coming nextfor auto GPT and it gave us a little bitmore information more insight into howhe's thinking about this and what hewants for the future of Auto gbt notjust for the community and for thegeneral masses but also for thedevelopers as well basically thisaffects a big portion of the directionof AI because as we all know Auto gbthas been making a lot of waves recentlyand I think that's only going to getbigger in the future so tauren prepareda deck it starts off like this Auto GPTa road map to the future of work sotauren also goes through the history ofAuto GPT it's really just a couple ofslides we'll go through this asefficiently as possible it's a goodrefresher and it's of course veryvaluable for others who have no ideawhat Auto GPT is maybe this is the firsttime you've ever heard of it or maybeyou just heard about it recently and youjust fell upon this video so what isauto GPT I mean you can pause this videoand you can check out the slides but inthe words of tauren he basicallyhighlights these two points number oneyou can think of it as an agent thatuses an llm as its brain the second partthe way he thinks about it and this isalso in the slide he mentions that it'sbest thought of as a user sitting infront of a computer has its own thoughtscriticizes its own strategy makes itsown plans and it also decides whatactions it needs to take in order toaccomplish the task or the goal the nextslide shows some stats and some socialproof the the project launch how autojptis just released March of this year alot of people forget how recent that isit's essentially still in its Alphastages and they're saying hey this isn'tperfect I mean it's very recent you'reliving in it right now we'reexperiencing everything happening inreal time and that's the fun part aboutthis there's also some social proof atthe bottom tweets from Andre carpathyand smoke away let's focus on Andrebecause he's mentioned Auto GPT in thepast right here on the slide it showsone tweet but there's also a series oftweets that just showed how he wasthinking about it as well and this wasback in early April Andre was mentioninghow the next Frontier of promptEngineering in his opinion it's Auto GPTone GPT call is just like oneinstruction on a computer they can bestrung together into programs he'sprompt to Define i o device and Toolspecs to find the cognitive Loop pagedata in and out of context window andthe run method he also keeps going hereinteresting non-obvious note on GPTpsychology is that unlike people theyare completely unaware of their ownstrengths and limitations for examplethat they have finite context windowthat they can just barely do mental maththat samples can get unlucky and go offthe rails Etc so I'd expect the goodprompts to explicitly address thingslike this one GPT call is a bit like onethought stringing them together in Loopscreates agents that can perceive thinkand act their goals defined in Englishin prompts for feedback learning Onepath is to have a reflect phase thatevaluates outcomes saves rollouts tomemory loads them to prompts to fuseshot on them that is the meta learningfew shot path you can learn on whateveryou manage to cram into the contextwindow the gradient based learning isless straightforward because relatedapis for example Laura fine tunes sftrlhf style are not yet available off theshelf preventing fine tuning on largequantity of experience all of that isjust one agent thread people coalesceinto organizations so they canspecialize and parallelize work towardsshared goals in my opinion this islikely to happen to Auto gpts and forthe same reasons strung into Auto Orcswith auto CEO Auto CFO Auto ICS Etc thisis also a very important slide as wellbecause it sets the foundation for whatdirection Auto GPT is going inwhich I'm sure many will be excitedabout the core Vision behind autogbt isto democratize access to Advanced AItechnology allowing everyone to benefitequally without such technologycorporations will be the only ones withaccess to internally developed AIautomation posing vast unemployment riskAuto GPT aims to level the playing fieldand create opportunities for all so theywant to democratize it essentiallymaking it easier for everyone to use ityou don't have to have a technicalbackground and that leads into thisportion what they've been working on webinterface desktop application and lateron mobile Integrations and Torin sayssomething very interesting he mentionedthat he wants to make it so easy that achild would be able to use it what elseis there there was a slide on abilitiesplugins maybe you've seen updates fromGitHub and their Discord Channel asexpected with something this popularthat's attracting devs from all aroundthe world there's naturally going to bea wide variety of plug an interestingquestion was also directed towardstauren his Auto GPT competing withChachi PT tauren didn't directly say yesor no but instead said this his responsewas Auto gbt is another layer on top ofGPT it's the decision maker and heexpects Auto gbt to be more autonomousso I think you kind of know what hemeans by that this is also a very bigtopic Auto GPT efficacy as we all knowAuto GPT has many issues it gets stuckin Loops it uses placeholders instead ofactual content and commands and then itsometimes makes obviously sillydecisions but the thing is these are allproblems that we can solve but how canwe tell which solution is the bestapparently a solution to solving thesemistakes using challenge drivendevelopment again the challenges arethat auto GPT has difficulty solvingtasks or problems or sometimes can'teven accomplish them at all especiallywithout human intervention andchallenges are important so we can allwork together as a community andessentially teach Auto gbt how to getbetter at every possible task it's areminder that you don't have to be aprogrammer to contribute to somethinglike this even non-programmers can thinkof an idea and it can lead to a lot ofbrainstorming the next one is aboutself-improvement and there's a lot ofother topics that are related to thissuch as safety and ethics but thepowerful part about this and it's prettyobvious right it's calledself-improvement it's iterating on itsown code base so that it keeps improvingaccording to tauren he mentions we willvery soon have an auto GPT version thatcan iterate over a large code base thiswas probably the most important slidefor me because he shared his philosophythere's two big parts of this taurengave some insight into how he's thinkinghe mentions there's amazing benefits tosomething like this Auto GPT such asproductivity and individual abilitythat's going to Skyrocket but that'sonly a good thing if everyone benefitsso if some people are left behindbecause they're non-technical thenaccording to him will end up in a worseworld than we started with it makessense I mean that's going to make itmore popular of course but if he'sgenuinely coming from a placeof Goodwill then obviously that's goodfor everyone who's involved in thisassuming you're not an evil person andyou want to destroy the world with thisright the other part is he mentionsprompt engineering and it's related towhat was just mentioned the whole let'sdemocratize this but as we all knowprompt engineering it's not thatintuitive you have to be very specificto get something really good a goodoutput especially if you want Auto gbtor even gbt in general to solve the taskas efficiently as possible but what ifit could be easier so this is what heproposes making it very simple and theexample is write a vegan cookbook that'sit you don't even have to get morespecific Auto GPT handles the promptengineering under the hood this is whathe ideally wants and it makes sensebecause if it's not something this easythen a lot of people they're not goingto be interested in using this becausethey're going to keep failing and that'snever fun for any type of experienceespecially if you're going to be using amobile app or a web browsing experiencewhich I'm sure many agree with unlessfor some very sick reason you enjoycrafting together strings of complexprompts I don't think you're going toenjoy doing that for a long time doesn'tseem
